S842 Contactless Smart Card Reader
The S842 is a contactless smart-card reader, with LCD and keypad.
The S842 is able to read HID® iCLASS™ smart cards and the card serial number on
Philips® MIFARE® smart cards.
For either type of card, the S842 supports the use of unencoded cards (where only
the unique card serial number is read).
In the case of HID iCLASS cards, an encoded
card number can be read. Encoding formats supported include HID's own formats and
AMAG’s own "smartMAX" format.
The multifunctional memory structure of Smart Cards makes them ideal for use in data security-sensitive multi-application systems such as access control, cashless
vending, etc.
The S842 is designed for use with AMAG’s multiNODE-1000, multiNODE-2 SMD, multiNODE-2000
and multiNODE-2100 controllers, and is compatible with Symmetry Business, Symmetry Professional,
Symmetry Enterprise and Symmetry Global Software at Version 4.0 and later.
Unlike Wiegand interface readers, the S842 uses secure, bidirectional, Pseudo-Random
supervised communications between the multiNODE controllers and their associated
readers. Both the reader and cable are supervised, and an alarm will occur if the
reader is tampered with or communications lost.
A distance from the multiNODE controller to the S842 of up to 3000ft (1000m) can
also be achieved.
The S842 includes an LCD for verification of card accepted and of card rejected.
The LCD display is also used for PIN prompt and to give verification of command
functions initiated through the reader keypad.
